Another math site

This one is for journaling, a topic that I hear is super helpful. I would like to integrate this into my lessons a bit better and will as I gain more experience as a teacher.
Here is the website from Angela Watson with various math journaling prompts that you can change to fit your state's curriculum standards.

My blog is still a work in progress so thanks for being patient with me.

Eventually I'll feel comfortable enough to share stories about school and our random silly and/or inspirational moments. I think. :) Until then, I hope you can use the website for your classes.
Have a great week!

Hello again

Its been a week or so since the last post. So far I haven't come across much by way of HS fun math things so I thought I'd pull from the bucket of websites I know and have tried (but haven't kept up with).

1st - Mangahigh.com:  my students (Algebra 1) enjoy this site and often ask when we'll be able to play on it again. They have small competitions for best scores and there are small tutorials that can be used if the student isn't catching on the first time.

2nd - Khan Academy - I've played around with this website and its pretty fun, once you get started. My only hang up was that the student needed to create either a Facebook or Google account. I'm sure my students already have one or the other, but I felt weird about telling them to set an account up if they did not have one. The students that do have an account, have liked the practice sessions and they like that there are videos they can watch for not only math, but science as well. there is a wealth of knowledge on this site and I highly recommend it.

3rd - http://coolmath-games.com/  my own kids like this site and the games on it. I'm not totally convinced that all the games are super math helpful, but it does have some games that they need to use basic math to win.

That's all I've got for today. I think next time I'll try posting pictures of the scrapbooking math visuals I've created for my class. Have a great day!

theres more to life than grade school

don't get me wrong. grade school is very important and the things we learn there are the things that get us started in life. in grade school our teachers help us learn by creating some really cute mnemonic devices and life in general is cute.
and then we hit middle school and life becomes more stale. worse yet, high school brings out a world of white walls and lack of inspiration. while learning to be more professional, we lose the sense of creativity and "does my teacher have a creative bone in her body?"
it could be that most high school teachers just don't share their ideas. it could be i'm looking in the wrong places. that being said, if someone out there has some great high school math ideas, i'd love to know what they are. I'm a firm believer in "beg, borrow, and steal" and hope that you do the same off the ideas I share.
this is done with the purpose of making high school math more fun. at this point, most students hate math, why make it worse by leaving it stale? my search is focused on finding people and then sharing ideas of how to help high school students learn the importance of gaining good math skills and being able to apply those skills later,,, and have fun in the process.
i have nothing much to share today but will try to find and post things as i go. have a great day!
p.s. i teach math, not english and i type as quickly as i think. so lets just get the fact that my grammar and other english syntax will be pretty horrible. i suggest not reading this if you teach english.
